Primary care nursing services at Detroit Receiving Hospital and University Health Center include physical exams, special health concerns of women, stress management counseling, treating minor illnesses and caring for persons with chronic illnesses. Physicians and other health care professionals are available on a referral and consultation basis when needed. Our nurse practitioners at Detroit Receiving Hospital and University Health Center have master's degree and are board certified. Most of our Nurses also hold faculty appointments with the Wayne State University College of Nursing.

Visits with primary care nurse practitioners involve health education and counseling. Our primary care nurse practitioners provide many of the traditional primary care services. They will also spend time with you discussing your health concerns. Specific services provided at the office include :

• Physical exams
• Fitness program education.
• Dietary counseling
• Care for common acute illnesses such as sexually-transmitted diseases, rashes, headaches, and bronchitis.
• Immunizations
• Counseling
• Care for chronic stable conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and arthritis.
• Specialty services for women include pap smears, pelvic and breast exams, as well as care for vaginitis and menopausal problems.
