Detroit Receiving Hospital

Orthopaedic Team

Detroit Receiving Hospital’s orthopaedic team has expanded, adding several experienced physicians to its orthopaedics department. The result is comprehensive ortho team that brings years of experience and new insight into the department.

Receiving’s chief of orthopaedics, Dr. Rahul Vaidya, trained under renowned spine surgeon Dr. Max Aebi.  Dr. Vaidya completed two fellowships in spinal surgery with Dr. Aebi, Dr. V. Arlet and Dr. Dante Machessi at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec.  He also did a third fellowship in, orthopaedic traumatology, at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Dr. Vaidya is well-published and has lectured worldwide, including a 2006 lecture and chair at the International Symposium on New Spine Technology, in Sorento, Italy

Dr. Vaidya is very involved in research on spinal disorders and complex spinal issues.  In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Vaidya will continue his research to develop new technologies that can lead to minimally invasive spinal surgery.

The orthopaedic department’s surgical team is rounded out with the additions of Dr. Robert Colen, Dr. Alfred Faulkner and Dr. Daniel Hoard, each of whom is experienced in trauma surgery.  Additionally, three orthopaedic sports physicians have expanded their practices to Detroit Receiving.  Dr. Douglas Plagens, Dr. Stephen Lemos and Dr. Robert Teitge bring their expertise in sports medicine to DRH’s patients.

The clinical support staff is led by our orthopaedic clinic manager, who has more than 15 years of experience as a registered nurse, with a background in orthopaedic spine surgery, orthopaedic oncology, joint replacement, trauma and general surgery.  The team also includes four physician assistants, who have years of training in the medical field and in the operating room, two surgical boarders, two cast technicians and two patient manager clerical experts.
