Neurosurgery The Department of
Neurosurgery at Detroit Receiving Hospital provides evaluation and treatment for
cranial nerve disorders. This includes Trigeminal Neuralgia, Hemi facial spasm,
Dysequilibrium, Acoustic Tumors, and related disorders. The neurosurgery team
performs all five of the recognized surgical
procedures: Microvascular
Decompression
Glycerol Balloon
Compression
Radiofrequency
Radiosurgery The neurosurgery team
offers the latest care for spinal cord and spinal column injury patients,
including mechanical instrumentation for severely injured spine patients.
A key element of this
care includes the treatment of patients with tumors, particularly those of the
spinal cord and brain. Detroit Receiving is the first hospital in
Detroit to be certified as a primary stroke center, by the Joint Commission on
Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
Therefore, Receiving’s neurosurgery department provides levels of stroke care
from Neurosurgical Intensive care to and through Endovascular treatment and a
wide variety of innovative therapies in between. Our goal is to provide our
patients with maximum function in minimal time and we collaborate with the
Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan in this endeavor.
The neurosurgical
intensive care unit staff specializes in working with patients who are
critically injured and require a high-level of care. These patients are afforded
the latest in neuromonitoring techniques that can monitor distinct functions in
and around the brain. This well educated and dedicated staff, whose specialty is
the care of the injured central nervous system including both the brain and the
spine, maintain the highest levels of patient care and
concern.
