Dr. Robert Wilson has been at Wayne State University for 39 years and a professor of surgery for over 30 years. Wilson, currently the chief of staff for Detroit Receiving Hospital, is also the director of the surgical intensive care unit and the chief of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery for Detroit Receiving Hospital. Dr. Wilson earned a B.A. degree in 1956 from Lehigh University and his M.D. degree from Temple University in 1958.
Wilson directs several surgery specialty review courses each year and is board certified for the American Board of Surgery, with added qualifications in Surgical Critical Care. He is also board certified for the American Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
In addition to memberships in 18 national and local societies, Wilson is on the editorial board for several major medical journals including the Journal of Trauma. He was chairman of the Michigan Committee on Trauma from 1975 to 1987 and is a founding member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine for which he served as its president. He earned a Markle Scholarship in Academic Medicine from 1971-1976 and a Gershenson Distinguished Faculty Fellowship from 1988-1990. Wilson received the Alumni Achievement Award from Temple University in 1998.
Dr. Wilson has 227 articles and eleven books published in his name.
He and his wife Jacqueline reside in Bloomfield Hills.
