Iris A. Taylor, Ph.D., RN, President

Dr. Iris Taylor began her career in health care in 1974.  Her long history with the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) includes the positions of staff nurse, manager, educator and chief nursing officer, responsible for nursing and patient care services across the DMC.  She served in various leadership roles at Detroit Receiving, where she was part of the original team that closed Detroit General Hospital and opened the new Detroit Receiving Hospital.  Dr. Taylor also served as president of Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women’s Hospital until 2004.

In November 2004, Dr. Taylor was named president of Detroit Receiving Hospital.  Now, working with one of Metro Detroit’s most experienced executive leadership teams, Dr. Taylor has expanded the capabilities and expertise of Detroit Receiving.  Since her return to Receiving as president, the hospital has experienced tremendous growth.

Dr. Taylor attended Wayne State University, earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing, as well as a doctorate of philosophy. She also completed a management fellowship at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.  She has taught in both college and hospital settings, and is an adjunct professor at Wayne State University’s College of Nursing and School of Medicine.

In addition to her commitment to providing excellent medical care, Dr. Taylor is also committed to the community.  She has a long history of volunteer leadership with community organizations, having served on many local boards of directors, including those of the Merrill-Palmer Institute, Detroit Central City Community Mental Health, Neighborhood Services Organization, Eastern Michigan University’s School of Nursing Curriculum Advisory Board and College of Nursing Board of Visitors.
