Dr. Iris Taylor began her career
in health care in 1974. Her long
history with the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) includes the positions of staff
nurse, manager, educator and chief nursing officer, responsible for nursing and
patient care services across the DMC.
She served in various leadership roles at Detroit Receiving, where she
was part of the original team that closed Detroit
General Hospital and opened the new
Detroit Receiving Hospital. Dr. Taylor also served as president of
Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women’s Hospital until
2004.
In November 2004, Dr. Taylor was
named president of Detroit Receiving Hospital. Now, working with one of Metro Detroit’s
most experienced executive leadership teams, Dr. Taylor has expanded the
capabilities and expertise of Detroit Receiving. Since her return to Receiving as
president, the hospital has experienced tremendous growth.
Dr. Taylor attended
Wayne State University, earning her bachelor’s and
master’s degrees in nursing, as well as a doctorate of philosophy. She also
completed a management fellowship at the Wharton School of Business at the
University of Pennsylvania. She has taught in both college and
hospital settings, and is an adjunct professor at
Wayne State University’s
College of Nursing and
School of Medicine.
In addition to her commitment to
providing excellent medical care, Dr. Taylor is also committed to the
community. She has a long history
of volunteer leadership with community organizations, having served on many
local boards of directors, including those of the Merrill-Palmer Institute,
Detroit Central City Community Mental Health, Neighborhood Services
Organization, Eastern Michigan University’s
School of Nursing Curriculum Advisory
Board and College of Nursing Board of
Visitors.
