Juanita Reid, BS, MA, MS, Vice President, Community Affairs

Juanita M. Reid is vice president for Community Affairs at the Detroit Medical Center (DMC), Detroit Receiving Hospital (DRH) in Detroit, Michigan. She joined Detroit Receiving in 2006 as vice president for Development with responsibilities for all fundraising operations for the hospital and health center. In 2009, Ms. Reid became the vice president for Community Affairs with overall responsibilities for directing the personnel, financial and operational activities of the community outreach functions for Detroit Receiving Hospital and University Health Center. She reports directly to the president and serves as a member of the President’s Leadership Team.

A native of Maryland, Ms. Reid earned her bachelor’s degree in English from West Virginia State University, a master’s degree in secondary curriculum from Eastern Michigan University and a master’s degree in higher education administration from The University of Michigan.

Ms. Reid joined the administration at Eastern Michigan University in 1975 as a financial aid advisor and was promoted to assistant director of financial aid. In 1984, she left Eastern Michigan to accept an appointment as assistant to the president at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She returned to Eastern Michigan in 1987 as associate director of development and in 1989 was promoted to executive associate to the president and secretary to the Board of Regents, a cabinet level position.

In 1995, Ms. Reid was promoted to vice president for University Relations and was responsible for alumni relations, eight charter schools, government relations, community relations, human resources, legal affairs, University Computing, radio station WEMU-FM, the Institute for Community and Regional Development, the Convocation Center and Pease Auditorium. Ms. Reid is an emeritus trustee of the Eastern Michigan University Foundation having served two, 3-year terms from 1996 to 2002. Her focus as vice president for University Relations was on government relations at the federal, state and local levels. She served as the University’s chief federal and state lobbyist and liaison to local communities and municipalities served by the University.

Ms. Reid is a member of numerous local, state and national organizations such as the Michigan Chapter of International Women’s Forum, Inforum Michigan, American College of Healthcare Executives, Michigan Association of Healthcare Associates, Executive Women’s Golf Association and a lifetime member of the Golden Key National Honor Society. She is a former member of the American Association of University Women and the Women of EMU American Council on Education Network. She served on the boards of the Ann Arbor Chamber of Commerce, the Ann Arbor Convention and Visitors Bureau, Washtenaw County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Huron Valley Ambulance, Inc.

She served the local community in numerous capacities as a former board member and board chair of the Willow Run School Board and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Ypsilanti Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Ypsilanti Leadership Council, the Corner Health Center Board of Directors, the Washtenaw County Task Force on Homelessness, the Board of Directors of the Ypsilanti Visitors and Convention Bureau and the Board of Directors of the Huron Valley Boys and Girls Club. Ms. Reid is a charter member of the Ypsilanti Chapter of Jack and Jill of American, inc., and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Currently, she is a member of the Board of Directors for Credit Union One and serves on the Audit Committee.

At the national level, Ms. Reid served on the National Collegiate Athletic Association Committee on Minority Issues and chaired the Subcommittee on Governance and Commitment to Rules Compliance during Eastern Michigan University’s NCAA accreditation process. She was selected by the American Council on Education to participate in the National Leadership Forum in 1995, the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Millennium Leadership Institute in 1999, and the Educational Policy Fellowship Program sponsored by the Michigan Institute for Educational Leadership.

In 2007, Ms. Reid was selected to participate in the Detroit Medical Center’s Leadership Academy. In 2002, Corp! Magazine named Ms. Reid on of “Michigan’s 95 Most Powerful Women,” and in 2008 she was nominated for Crain’s Detroit “Women to Watch.”

Ms. Reid resides in Canton, Michigan, is an avid golfer and enjoys sports.
